  1. It’s great that you provide so many helpful tips about planning a family gap year! I especially like Traveling Eastward vs. Westward Around the Globe tips. Excellent pros and cons!

  2. Unfortunately, some employers (like mine) do not allow gap years or sabbaticals. For me, taking it slow and immersing oneself in foreign cultures and learning new languages would be the main charm to do that. And that also means less advance planning and reserving more time for local sightseeing and events.

  3. I’ve always heard about gap years, but I hadn’t thought about a family taking one together. This would be amazing especially for families that have younger kids or children that are homeschooled.

  4. Ah, if I could turn back the clock — and have a more reasonable kid to parent ratio — I’d soooo love to experience a gap year on the road with my kiddos. This is great advice for those families lucky enough to make this happen!

  5. My family has just started truly considering a gap year. I’m am 100% on board and would love to connect with more families that have taken the plunge!!

  6. Thank you so much for such a thorough blog post!! We are a family of 4 and I’m just at the beginning of the planning stages. Just curious, did you release a Part 2?? Looking forward to reading all your thoughts and advice! – Jen from Charlotte 🙂

  7. I have not, but I should! When are you thinking about heading out? It’s so much fun to plan, and such an exciting endeavor! I love meeting other families who are thinking about doing the same thing!
